What We Believe…Statement of Faith

Agape Home Fellowship is a network of house churches, established on the teachings of the God’s Holy Word.  As such, our doctrine (those set of beliefs we hold to) is also established entirely upon God’s Word. Within doctrine is found essential and non-essential doctrine. We specifically affirm the following doctrinal truths:

Essential doctrines are those teachings which are necessary for salvation; upon which there can be no debate within the Christian community.

Non-essential doctrines do not impact salvation and there can be discussions amongst Christians of varying denominations regarding these issues.

Augustine of Hippo said it best: “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love.”

At Agape Home Fellowship, we specifically affirm the following essential doctrinal truths:

  • We believe in the Holy Scriptures, divinely inspired by God, written by men and are the sole authority for faith and practice. They are infallible and inerrant as contained in the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts. The Holy Scriptures are comprised of the Old and New Testaments, with thirty-nine books in the former and twenty-seven books in the latter.
  • We believe in one God who is seen in three persons, one in unity and three in essence. Within this tri-unity (Trinity), none comes before or after; none is greater or inferior. All three persons are coequal and coeternal, so that in every way all three persons are to be worshiped as one God and one God worshiped as three persons.
  • We believe in the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, uncreated, eternal and divine.
  • We believe in the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, uncreated, eternal, pre-incarnate and divine, fully God and fully man, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, perfect in both deity and humanness. He is the only Son of God, begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary.
  • We believe the Lord Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, suffered under Pontius Pilate and was crucified, died and was buried. On the third day, He rose in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and ascended into Heaven where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father and is the only mediator between Man and God.
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit, uncreated and eternal, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son. He indwells the believer and is our guide and comforter.
  • We believe that salvation is through the grace of God alone, not by works least anyone should boast.
  • We believe salvation; entrance into Heaven and life everlasting is through belief in Christ alone and the acceptance of His atoning work on the cross. There is no name under Heaven by which men can be saved and without faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice, salvation is not attainable. Those who do not attain such a great salvation, through faith, will be eternally separated from God in Hell and face the Great White Throne Judgment according to Revelation 20:11-15.
  • We believe that Christians should be baptized in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit by submersion in water which symbolizes the burial of our old lifestyle (as your submersed) and the resurrection of our new lifestyle (as you come up out of the water) through Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit in accordance with Acts 2:4 and Acts 11:15-17.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ wants to manifest His own character through the church. To accomplish that through individual believers, the Holy Spirit gives every believer, at the time of conversion, a unique spiritual giftedness with which to minister to the rest of the body.  The Holy Spirit gives the gifts by divine will and choice.
  • That the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then those who are in Christ, who are alive and remain shall be caught up (raptured) together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and thus will remain with Him forever and ever.
  • That every knee shall bow and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
  • We believe that ONLY the sacrifice of the Cross satisfied the wrath of God upon sin (John 3:36). There is only one way to God the Father in Heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. There is only one truth, the Word of God contained in the Holy Scriptures (the Old and New Testaments of the Bible). There is only one life eternal. – John 14:6. All other ways (be they Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc), invented by man and devils, are false ways and lead one’s soul to eternal separation from God in a place known as Hell. Only faith in the finished work of the Cross provides salvation for the soul.

AHF summarizes our beliefs in “The Christian’s Creed”

 In Essentials:

We believe in the Holy Scriptures, divinely inspired by God, written by men and are the sole authority for faith and practice. They are infallible and inerrant. The Holy Scriptures are comprised of the Old and New Testaments, with thirty-nine books in the former and twenty-seven books in the latter.

We believe in one God who is seen in three persons, one in unity and three in essence. Within this tri-unity (Trinity), none comes before or after; none is greater or inferior. All three persons are coequal and coeternal, so that in every way all three persons are to be worshiped as one God and one God worshiped as three persons.

We believe in the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, uncreated, eternal and divine. We believe in the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, uncreated, eternal, pre-incarnate and divine, fully God and fully man, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, perfect in both deity and humanness. He is the only Son of God, begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, suffered under Pontius Pilate and was crucified, died and was buried. On the third day, He rose in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and ascended into Heaven where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father and is the only mediator between Man and God. We believe in the Holy Spirit, uncreated and eternal, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

We believe that salvation is through the grace of God alone, not by works lest anyone should boast. We believe salvation, entrance into Heaven and life everlasting is through belief in Christ alone and the acceptance of His atoning work on the cross. There is no name under Heaven by which men can be saved and without faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice, salvation is not attainable. Those who do not attain such a great salvation, through faith, will be eternally separated from God in Hell.

Amen.

There are many other doctrines in the Christian faith: timing of the rapture of the church; can you or can’t you lose your salvation; predestination; tithing; church polity; mode of Baptism; just to name a few. We deem these as non-essential to salvation. Many great men and women of faith have stood on both sides of these issues. Armenians stand on one side with their theology and with John Wesley, Calvinists stand on the other with great men such as John Knox. Their theologies are different, but both stand firm on the essentials.

At Agape Home Fellowship, we will in firm unity on the essentials of the faith. On these, we will not waiver. We will not compromise or budge. We will show liberty in non-essentials. In all things, we will show love; God’s Love for sinful man. His passion is the lost and that is our passion. We will not allow our differences over non-essentials to distract us from His passion.
