Praying before Reading the Scriptures

A Prayer before Reading Scripture

Merciful Lord, I thank you for your Holy Word. It is a Lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalms 109:105). I thank You for your promise that those who delight in Your Word are like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—    whatever they do prospers (Psalms 1:3). Father, give me insight and an understanding of the Knowledge of Your will as I read Your Word. Open the eyes of my understanding to see Your truth. All efforts I have to understand Your truth are in vain without Your Holy Spirit to guide me. I invite Him in and ask for His instruction. May Your Holy Word sink deep into my soul and transform me….conforming me into the image of Your Dear Son, Jesus Christ. If there be anything between You and me…I ask you remove it now. If there be sin, I ask that the light of Your Holy Spirit will shine into that darkness. I confess all known sin and ask You to reveal the unknown. I thank You again that You hear my prayers and know the intents of my heart. Guide me Holy Spirit to the truth You wish me to have today. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
